The American Bar Association Commission on Women in the Profession has selected five female lawyers to receive its 2015 Margaret Brent Women Lawyers of Achievement Award on Aug. 2. They are Mari Carmen Aponte, ambassador of the United States to El Salvador; Flora D. Darpino, lieutenant general, Army, Judge Advocate General; Fernande R.V. Duffly, associate justice, Massachusetts Supreme Judicial Court; Mary Ann Hynes, senior counsel, Dentons US LLP in Chicago and formerly senior vice president and general counsel at Ingredion; and Emma Coleman Jordan, professor of law, Georgetown University Law Center.
The Chicago Bar Association’s Alliance for Women honored two lawyers for their contributions to the progress of women in the law at its annual awards luncheon on May 22. Stephanie A. The Indian American Bar Association of Chicago Foundation awarded the 2015 IABA Foundation Public Interest Fellowship to Manpreet Teji, a second-year student at The John Marshall Law School. Northwestern University School of Law received a $1 million donation from Chris and Courtney Combe to combat female genital mutilation. It will pay for two public health fellowships and support the university’s program in Mali led by law professor Juliet Sorensen.
