Simmons Hanly Conroy promoted shareholders Amy E. Garrett to assistant managing partner. Garrett, who is based in the downstate Alton office, oversees the Madison County and St. Louis dockets and works closely with attorneys in both the asbestos and complex litigation departments to ready cases for trial.
Oak Brook-based Lillig & Thorsness promoted Angela M. Iaria to partner. She leads the firm’s family law practice and also focuses on commercial litigation, estate planning and estate administration. She serves as DuPage Association of Women Lawyers first vice president and DuPage County Bar Association Estate Planning and Probate Committee vice chair.
SmithAmundsen named partner Stephen A. Stitle as chief operating officer. He will work closely with the firm’s executive committee and managing partner Larry A. Schechtman on planning, recruitment and client relations.
Winters Salzetta O’Brien & Richardson promoted Bart J. Galvin to partner. He focuses on personal-injury cases.

Appointments
Corboy & Demetrio associate Andrew P. Stevens was elected vice chair of American Association for Justice’s Federal Tort Liability and Military Advocacy Section for the 2019-20 term during the association’s annual national convention in August in San Diego.
Novack and Macey partner Stephen J. Siegel was elected to serve as a member of the American Bar Association’s Section of Litigation Council for the 2019-20 bar year. The section provides litigators nationwide with resources needed to become experienced advocates.
Howard & Howard attorney Michael D. Gifford was elected as president of the Peoria County Bar Association. His term will run through July 1.
Pamela Murphy-Boylan was named president and chief executive officer of The Judicial Sales Corp., a subsidiary of Attorneys’ Title Guaranty Fund Inc. Murphy-Boylan joins the company after a 25-year career in mortgage servicing, title and foreclosure business, where she had experience in operational management and adherence to the compliance requirement in those fields.
Mayer Brown partner Jon D. Van Gorp was named chair of the Bottom Line’s Chicago Regional Advisory Board. Bottom Line is a nonprofit organization that helps first generation students from low-income backgrounds attend college and graduate.
Cozen O’Connor partner Christopher S. Hennessy was named American Bar Association Section of Litigation, Employment & Labor Relations Law Committee Newsletter Subcommittee chair. Hennessy will be responsible for soliciting, authoring and editing articles on current litigation topics for the committee’s website and its various publications.
Swanson, Martin & Bell partner Michael W. Drumke was elected to the American Bar Association Board of Governors for a three-year term.
Gov. J.B. Pritzker appointed current Massey & Gail partner Cara Ann Hendrickson to the Illinois Executive Ethics Commission, subject to Illinois Senate confirmation. She previously served as the chief of the Illinois Attorney General’s Office Public Interest Division.
Honors
Foran Glennon Palandech Ponzi & Rudloff attorney John P. Eggum was awarded the 2019 President’s Commendation by the Illinois Defense Counsel. Eggum was recognized for advocacy work completed by the group’s Legislative Committee over the past year on behalf of the association and the defense bar. He was one of three committee leaders to receive the award.
Charitable
Ropes & Gray attorneys participated in Cradles to Crayons’ fourth annual Backpack-A-Thon on Aug. 21, helping to pack 50,000 backpacks with school supplies for Chicago children in homeless and low-income situations. Ropes & Gray volunteers included Chicago office managing partner Laura G. Hoey, Neill P. Jakobe (who also serves on Cradles to Crayons’ Chicago Corporate Advisory Council), Nicholas M. Berg, Timothy A. Castelli, Paulita A. Pike, Rita T. Rubin, Philip P. Ehrlich, Grant Thomas Hodges, Jeanette Schroeder and business support members.
Howard & Howard donated $12,500 to the Heart of Illinois United Way as part of a yearlong charitable campaign involving all the law firm’s offices. The firm will make donations totaling $150,000 throughout the year to various community and charitable groups in Illinois, Michigan and Nevada.
